Plastic surgery is a big decision, and choosing your plastic surgeon is one of the most important aspects of your journey to look and feel your best. You want to make sure that you get the results that you want with as small of a risk of complications as possible – it’s your face and body, after all.

Here at Renaissance Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons are board-certified with years of experience. If you’re interested in undergoing breast augmentation, liposuction, a facelift, or any other procedure, call us at 636-535-2933 to schedule your consultation.

Choose a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

It may seem unbelievable, but surgeons do not need to specialize in plastic surgery in order to be able to practice it. Any general surgeon can perform cosmetic procedures. Make sure your plastic surgeon has dedicated training in cosmetic procedures by checking that they’re board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Board-certification doesn’t guarantee great results, but it does at least guarantee that your surgeon has undergone the intense and rigorous training that a board certification requires.

Look At Before and After Plastic Surgery Photos

Before and after photos are the best way to tell what your surgeon’s aesthetic is, as well as see what kind of results they tend to deliver. Before and after photos can tell you things like:

  • Does the surgeon deliver natural looking results, or do they tend to deliver more obvious and dramatic results?
  • Are their results consistent?
  • Have they operated on patients who have the same kind of anatomy or features as you?

When looking at before and after photos, it’s important to take note of individual patient anatomy. Breast implants on a taller, heavier woman will look different than the same size breast implants on a smaller, petite woman. In addition, if you have a feature you’re looking to correct like wide-set breasts, ask specifically for photos of wide-set breast augmentations the surgeon has done.

How Many Years of Experience Does Your Surgeon Have?

In general, plastic surgeons with more years of experience under their belt will be better prepared for unexpected complications or uncommon requests. If you’re looking at plastic surgeons with decades of experience, though, make sure you ask how they stay up to date with the latest advances in technology and technique. Plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving field, and it’s important to stay on top of recent advances rather than remaining rooted in the past.

Look for plastic surgeons who:

  • Seek out opportunities for continuing education and encourage their staff to do the same
  • Publish research articles
  • Are members of established societies such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
