Outdoor shot of smiling young female model in bikini standing against blue sky. Woman having fun out on a summer day. We’re nearing the end of summer. Interestingly, this is a prime time for people to schedule a consultation for a body contouring procedure. We see an uptick in interest about this time every year, which could seem counterintuitive. Isn’t it before summer when people would want to address their concerns with excess fat on the body? Well, yes. And also, those who didn’t address these concerns at the beginning of summer are now saying they won’t wait another minute to do so. We’re happy to help them. Helping people look and feel their best is what we’re all about. Here, we discuss body contouring with CoolSculpting and the mistakes you don’t want to make.

First Up: What Is CoolSculpting?

It’s easy to assume that everyone has heard of CoolSculpting, but hearing about CoolSculpting doesn’t mean much. Unless you personally know someone who has undergone this beneficial treatment, you have questions. This device has been designed to freeze fat, hence the name. It works by isolating small pockets of fat into the applicator, which gently pulls tissue with suction. Once secured, the tissue is then subjected to very cold temperatures. Tissue is cooled to a target temperature at which fat cells will form crystals and die. The lymphatic system systematically flushes the destroyed cells over a period of several weeks.

When it Comes to CoolSculpting, Don’t Make Assumptions

What we often hear from people seeking more information about CoolSculpting is they think they have too much fat to make treatment worth it. On the flip side, we hear patients say they don’t think they have enough fat. Clearly, both are extreme viewpoints and neither may be correct. To believe this without seeking a consultation from a skilled provider could mean to miss out on the very treatment that will improve satisfaction with your appearance.

Generally speaking, CoolSculpting is best for people who are happy with their current weight but would like some refining in a target area. Think of the old adage “you can’t spot reduce fat.” Well, with CoolSculpting, you can. If, for you, that is excess fat on the lower abdomen, the thighs, or the back, you may be a great candidate for CoolSculpting. If it’s the back of your arms that you’d like to sculpt, or your chin area, some fat-freezing may be right up your alley. The full list of common treatment areas includes:

  • Under the chin
  • The upper arm
  • The inner thighs
  • The abdomen
  • The outer thighs
  • The hips ( flanks, love handles, muffin tops…)
  • The back
  • The upper knee
