SkinTyte: The Pros and Cons

Every treatment has pros and cons, and we believe in being transparent about them. An informed patient is a confident patient. Details about SkinTyte that you should know include:

  • SkinTyte is safe for all skin tones and types.
  • There is no downtime associated with this treatment and no risk of bruising, swelling, or scarring.
  • It can take up to six SkinTyte sessions to achieve the most profound and long-lasting results. Treatments are scheduled every other week.
  • Results build over several months as the collagen that firms the skin is naturally remodeled.
  • Results can last up to 2 years.

What Happens During a SkinTyte Treatment?

The SkinTyte procedure is performed in the office without any need for anesthesia. After applying a gel that is similar to what is used for ultrasound imaging, the provider passes a small applicator over the treatment area. This handpiece delivers pulses of infrared light along with intermittent cooling to prevent the skin from overheating. Infrared energy passes through the superficial layers of skin and lands in deeper layers of tissue where collagen fibers have become loose and weak. The process can feel somewhat like an ultrasound massage. The tissue will eventually feel quite warm, as it must reach a specific temperature to elicit the desired result. The entire process takes about half an hour.

After SkinTyte treatment, patients can expect their skin to look red. This side effect is due to the heating of deeper layers of tissue. It usually lasts no more than 30 to 45 minutes. The effects of infrared light absorption do make the skin more photosensitive. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure and also to wear SPF 30 sunscreen every day to prevent sun damage. With these guidelines, patients go right back to their normal activities.

Great skin isn’t guaranteed. Most of us need a little help in that arena. SkinTyte can be that ideal service that enables you to enjoy the appearance of youthful, resilient skin even as you age. To learn more, contact our St. Peters office at (636) 896-0600.
